The shoreline is approximately 90km long and known as the Coral Riviera, home to a major colony of the finest coral. Upon arrival, enjoy a walking tour with your tour leader. See the Catalan Gothic buildings including the Santa Maria Cathedral with its imposing bell tower, Palazzo Guillot and San Francesco Church and the nearby San Michele church with its colourful tiled dome.

Today join a boat excursion to the spectacular stalactite cave of Neptune’s Grotto. In the heart of the cliffside of Capo Caccia you can find the fairytale underworld of the Grotta di Nettuno (Neptune's Grotto). A fantasy world of spectacular cave formations and a system of rooms with saltwater lakes extending approximately 2,500 meters in length.

One of the most fascinating natural jewels in the entire Mediterranean basin, the grotto is a veritable geological wonder that attracts more than 150,000 visitors per year. In the afternoon continue your tour to Olbia, a coastal city in northeast Sardinia which the ancient Greeks named olbìa, or ‘happiness’. It’s known for the medieval San Simplicio Basilica (entrance not included), and for the charming cafes dotting the central squares. On the palm-lined waterfront to the east, the Archeological Museum of Olbia (entrance not included) has exhibits ranging from Nuragic artifacts (the indigenous civilisation whose lives are obscured by unanswered questions) to Roman war ships. Enjoy free time at leisure in this fascinating town. You might like to sample some local delicacies in the form of Olbian Clams (not included) to be paired, of course, with a glass of Vermentino (local white wine).

Overnight: For You Hotel, Olbia or similar
Meals included: Breakfast

Today join a full day excursion to Costa Smeralda (Emerald Coast), a stretch of land along the northeast coast of Sardinia, Italy. The Costa Smeralda is synonomous with dream-like beaches, isolated coves and inlets, and gently-changing shades of blue and green sea. This extraordinary panorama is dotted with Mediterranean plant life, numerous villas, golf courses, tourist ports and homes hidden behind rocks shaped by the wind in perfect harmony with with the environmental setting.

Arrive in Palau where you will embark the ferry to Maddalena Island (approx. 20 minutes), one of Sardinia's secret islands. It’s the big sister of around 60 islands and islets that make up the archipelago to the northeast of Sardinia and the town of La Maddalena is the only one in the archipelago. The stone-paved alleyways of the town centre open onto 18th century buildings, including the town hall and the Santa Maria Maddalena parish. Three kilometres from the town centre is the Cala Francese inlet; between the Mediterranean brush and the granite quarry, you can discover tranquil inlets and incredible beaches. Afterwards, cross the Ponte Moneta (Coin Bridge) to the small and beautiful island of Caprera, part of the La Maddalena archipelago. It has been declared a Wildlife Sanctuary and therefore is protected by strict building restrictions. Giuseppe Garibaldi, the unforgettable hero of the Risorgimento, spent his last days on this small island and ordered that his ashes be buried here in a rough granite tomb. On the way back stop at Porto Cervo, the undisputed kingdom of luxury holidays. Its symbol is a small and charming village by the sea, an architectural gem set in an area of natural beauty. In the summer, it becomes an extraordinary procession of hundreds of yachts and famous personalities; it is quite likely that you will find yourself in the square, shopping with stars of the cinema and the television. In the late afternoon return back to your hotel in Olbia.

Overnight: For You Hotel, Olbia or similar

After breakfast, head out on a full day guided tour of Malta. The first stop is the Blue Grotto, which is a number of sea caverns on the southern coast of Malta, west of the Wied iz-Żurrieq harbour. It is located right across the small uninhabited islet of Filfla. Every day from sunrise until about 1:00pm a unique sight can be observed here. The location of the cave, combined with the sunlight lead to the water mirroring, showing numerous shades of blue. Several caverns mirror the brilliant phosphorescent colours of the underwater flora; other caverns show a deep dark shade of blue. The Blue Grotto is a popular destination for tourists on the island of Malta. It was also used for a scene of the 2004 film Troy, starring Brad Pitt. You will have the opportunity to take a boat trip around the caves (subject to weather conditions).

The next stop is Mdina. Mdina is the old capital of Malta whose earliest inhabitants date back to 4000 BC. The fortified and walled town is known as the ‘Silent City’ due to its quiet and narrow streets. Commanding a magnificent view of the Island, Mdina maintained a strategic position due to its central location, the highest point on the island, and its distance from the sea. Enjoy a guided walk through the city and visit its most famous site, the iconic St. Paul’s Cathedral. The Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Paul is a Roman Catholic cathedral, dedicated to St. Paul the Apostle. The cathedral was founded in the 12th century, and it stands on the site of where Roman governor Publius met Saint Paul following his shipwreck on Malta. The original cathedral was severely damaged in the 1693 Sicily earthquake; however it was dismantled and rebuilt in the Baroque style by the Maltese architect Lorenzo Gafà between 1696 and 1705.

Afterwards, head back to Valetta, where you will visit The Three Cities. The Three Cities is a collective description of the three fortified cities of Birgu, Senglea and Cospicua in Malta. The oldest of the Three Cities is Birgu has existed since the Middle Ages. The other two cities, Senglea and Cospicua, were both founded by the Order of Saint John in the 16th and 17th centuries. The Three Cities are enclosed by the Cottonera Lines, along with several other fortifications.

It is a living experience of Baroque architecture, a monument donated by the Knights of St John nearly five centuries ago. Dotted with quaint cafes and wine bars, the city is today one of Malta’s main tourist attractions. Afterwards head to the nearby town of Mellieha, popular for its sandy beaches and natural environment. Enjoy a walk through the city, stopping at the Parish Church of Mellieha. TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction in which he or she is guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves the group at the end of the tour, they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides in each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village, and offer information on the place visited on the bus, however they are not required to have specific knowledge on art, architecture, or history. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when particularly required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.
