ITINERARY

Show All Info

Today, be met by your tour guide at 8am sharp from the pick up point at Grand Chancellor Hotel - Hobart. From here head west from the city and stop en-route for morning tea before reaching Lady Barron Falls Circuit. This scenic walk in Mount Field National Park includes Russell, Horseshoe and Lady Barren Falls. This first section to Russell Falls is easy and the falls ere beautiful.

There is a short, steep climb from here to Horseshoe Falls, where you will stop to appreciate another stunning waterfall. Continue through the forest trail among towering trees before reaching the lovely Lady Barron Falls.

After a beautiful and relaxing walk viewing waterfalls, rainforest and dense forest you will wander back to the vehicle and head to your next stop at Junee Cave for a 1km walk and explore.

You will then head back to your accommodation where you will spend the next three nights. In the afternoon you will arrive at Giants’ Table and Cottages to unpack and settle in.

Meals included: Lunch;Dinner

After breakfast and lunch preparations, head out with your tour guide to experience the Tarn Shelf Circuit Walk – rated one of the best walks in the region. This stunning path takes you across the Tarn Shelf, returning via the lower lakes. It takes in a series of alpine tarns as well as a couple of rustic huts and provides exhilarating walking and great views.

Some tracks offer boardwalks to alleviate the muddier sections of the track and to protect the rare and sensitive vegetation in the area, however it can still get quite wet underfoot in some areas.

This track is spectacular in autumn when the leaves of the native deciduous beech tree changes colour. This hidden gem and you are likely not to encounter other walkers while on the trail. It is a fantastic walk and a real highlight of the tour.

Meals included: Breakfast;Lunch;Dinner

After breakfast and lunch preparation you will pack up and head off for your guided walk. A one hour scenic drive into the heart of the South West will bring you to the start of the Port Davey track. Port Davey is the starting point of the challenging 5 day walk from Scotts Peak to the remote outpost of Melaleuca.

The trail passes through sections of wet forest and open button grass plains, offering expansive views to the Western Arthurs and Mount Anne. Mount Anne is the highest peak in the South West area, standing at an impressive 1423m high.

Afterwards, you will leave the main track. This trail includes some short sections of dense scrub which can be wet underfoot. Your guides will ensure to take this part slowly as it can be quite challenging. As you climb towards Red Knoll lookout, the views of Lake Pedder are spectacular. At the summit you are rewarded with 360 degree views of the surrounding mountain ranges that are the South West Wilderness.

Weather permitting, you may even have the opportunity for a swim in Lake Pedder. Heading back to our accommodation, if time permits we stop off at The Creepy Crawly Nature Trail – which is as magical as the name suggests. This is a short 30 minute wilderness boardwalk track through lush, temperate rainforest.

Meals included: Breakfast;Lunch;Dinner

After breakfast and lunch preparation you will head off into the Florentine Valley, which is an area of dense rainforest. The trail can get quite wet and boggy and slippery underfoot so, although an easy short walk, care needs to be taken.

This trail is fantastic and takes you through dense rainforest, occasional open areas, dark hollows brimming with fungi, and huge stands of towering trees. It is incredible and awe inspiring.

At Tiger Lookout you can see the Florentine River cutting its way through the valley, looking north-west is The Thumbs, north-east is Mt Field West and east is The Needles. This is a great short walk through an ancient eco-system. The vegetation in the early sections of the hike, and the landscapes in the latter section are incredibly unique and stunning.

If time permits, in the afternoon you will embark on the lovely Marriots Falls walk. Although the first section of the trail has been affected by logging, it is not long before you enter dense swamp gums before the trail opens up onto a grassy plain. Moving through you will walk through rainforest where it can be quite wet underfoot.

It’s not too long before you will hear the sound of the falls which carry an enormous amount of water in periods after rain. Marriott’s Falls is absolutely stunning and another beautiful waterfall in the region.

After your walking concludes for the day you will head out and back to your original pick up destination in Hobart at 5:00pm.

Please note: If you are planning to fly out of Hobart this evening, please book your scheduled flight no earlier than 6:30pm as you should arrive back into Hobart by 5:00pm.

- Most healthy adults can participate in a walking holiday. If you can walk upwards of 15 kilometres or more in a day, carrying a lightweight day pack, you will find this tour totally achievable.
- While we typically walk on well forged walking tracks, the quality and degree of difficulty can vary greatly. You may find some tracks rocky and lumpy underfoot, soft and sandy, or muddy and slippery.
- Sometimes there is the need to negotiate obstacles such as fallen trees, sections of scree or steep steps.
- Ensure you come along with, not only the right footwear, rain gear and clothing, but also the right frame of mind!

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction in which he or she is guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves the group at the end of the tour, they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides in each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village, and offer information on the place visited on the bus, however they are not required to have specific knowledge on art, architecture, or history. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when particularly required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.
