YOU HAVE TO SEE IT TO BELIEVE IT
1. The Natural Beauty
Queenstown is the ultimate destination no matter the time of year. Warm and inviting in summer, with winding mountain bike and hiking trails; cosy in winter with snow-capped mountains and some of the best downhill skiing conditions in the southern hemisphere. When autumn sets in the hills come alive in a blaze of vibrant reds, oranges and yellows. And as for Spring? It’s a time for exploring vineyards and wild, green pastures and indulging in the finer things in life.
2. The Adventure
It’s no secret Queenstown is fearless in the adventure department. AJ Hackett opened the world’s first commercial bungy jump here back in the 1980s, and the adrenaline factor of this once-sleepy alpine village has only ramped up in the years since. Today there’s everything from jet boats to canyon swings, river surfing and ziplining to heli-skiing. One visit and you’ll be hooked!
3. The Gourmet Delights
Though synonymous with skiing and the outdoors, Queenstown is also a foodie’s paradise with more than 100 fabulous bars and restaurants, not to mention a bounty of beautiful vineyards nearby. Amber nectar at Smith’s Craft Beer House, burgers worth queuing for at Fergburger, or a love-letter to the fresh produce of the region at Botswana Butchery… it’s all seriously good.
4. The Convenience
It doesn’t get much better than this. Less than 30 minutes after touching down at Queenstown airport (ZQN) you can be kicking back poolside, unpacking ski gear in preparation for your first of many downhill runs, or gazing in awe at the astonishing beauty of the region. You’ll find regular flights from Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch, as well as the east coast of Australia.
5. The Accommodation
There’s something for every budget and taste in Queenstown. Want a glamorous five-star resort with views for days or a cosy apartment where you can come and go as you please? You’re in luck! The best thing about Queenstown is how compact it is. You’re never far from downtown, either via a quick drive or scenic stroll through the neighbourhood and along the lakefront.
